John T. Benson, Sr.

BENSON, John Thomas, Sr. b. Nashville, Tennessee, 18 February 1861; d. Nashville, Tennessee, 24 June 1930. Music minister and song leader John T. Benson, Sr. was born in the Edgefield community of east Nashville and raised in the Tulip Street Methodist Church where his father was a charter member. He led music at various churches, Christian camps, and conferences for over twenty-five years. The publishing company he founded (1902) and which bore his name for 105 years became one of America’s largest Christian music publishers and Nashville’s oldest music publishing company.
