John Gavin Scott
SCOTT, John Gavin. b. 18 June 1956; d. 12 August 2015. He was a chorister at Wakefield Cathedral, educated at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Wakefield, and St John’s College, Cambridge. He went back to Wakefield Cathedral as Assistant Organist (1970-74), followed by another return as Organ Scholar of St John’s College, Cambridge (1974-78). He was then Assistant Organist at Southwark Cathedral (1978-85); from 1985 to 2004 he was involved with the music of St Paul’s Cathedral as Assistant Sub-Organist, Sub-Organist and finally (from 1990), Organist and Director of Music.
