John David Chambers
CHAMBERS, John David. b. London, 1805; d. Westminster, London, 22 August 1893. He was educated at Oriel College, Oxford (BA 1827, MA 1831). He became a Barrister (called to the Bar, 1831), and was appointed Recorder of New Sarum (Salisbury) in 1842. During his time at Salisbury he became interested in the Sarum Rite, publishing The Psalter, or Seven Ordinary Hours of Sarum, with the Hymns for the Year, and the Variations of the York and Hereford Breviaries (1852). He was a translator of Latin hymns, publishing Lauda Syon, Ancient Latin Hymns of the English and Other Churches, Translated into corresponding Metres (Part I 1857; Part II 1866).
