Joachim Magdeburg
MAGDEBURG, Joachim. b. Gardelegen, near Wittenberg, ca. 1525; d. date unknown. He spent the first part of his life in the Altmark, the area south of Wittenberg. He was educated at the University of Wittenberg (1544- ), and became rector of a school at Helmstedt, near Braunschweig, and (after a brief period as pastor at Dannenberg, near Lüneberg), pastor at Salzwedel.
More than most people of his time, Magdeburg was subject to the whim of those in power in the various places where he lived. He was expelled from Brandenburg when the Act of Interim of 1552 introduced Catholic services.
