Jesu, Lord of life and glory. John James Cummins* (1795-1867). First published in Cummins’s Seals of the Covenant Opened or the Sacraments of the Church considered in their Connexion with the Great Doctrines of the Gospel (1839), a book prepared for his family. It was entitled ‘Litany’. It was described by JJ as ‘a sweet and musical Litany’ (p. 600). It had seven 4-line stanzas, each with the refrain added, ‘By Thy mercy,/ O deliver us, Good Lord’.
