Jesaiä dem Propheten das geschah. Martin Luther* (1483-1546). This is found in Luther’s German Mass, Deudsche Messe und ordnung Gottis Diensts (Wittenberg, 1526) (Jenny, p. 97). It was entitled ‘Das deudsch Sanctus’ (Wackernagel, Das Deutsche Kirchenlied III. 18-19). It was found in the later hymn books of Luther’s time, such as the Geistliche Lieder auffs new gebessert (Wittenberg, 1529). It was a single text of 16 lines, paraphrasing Isaiah 6, with lines 11-13 containing the ‘Holy, holy, holy!’ (‘Heilig/Heylig ist Gott der herr zebaoth’).
