Jane Catherine Bonar
BONAR, Jane Catherine (née Lundie). b. Kelso, Scotland, December 1821; d. Edinburgh, 3 December 1884. She was the daughter of the minister of Kelso, Robert Lundie (1774-1832) and his wife, Mary Grey Duncan (1788-1877). She married Horatius Bonar* in 1843. According to JJ, p. 162, her hymns were published in his Songs for the Wilderness (1844) and his Bible Hymn Book (1845). He described their use as ‘very limited’, but adds that she was known through her hymn, ‘Pass away, earthly joy’*.
Her name appears in various forms: Jane Catharine Bonar, Catherine Jane Bonar, Mrs Catherine Jane Bonar, Mrs Horatius Bonar, Mrs J.C.Bonar, Jane C. Bonar. She was interred in the graveyard of Canongate...
