Jakob Ebert
EBERT, Jakob. b. Sprottau, Silesia (now Szprotawa, Poland), 26 January 1549; d. Frankfurt-an-der-Oder, 5 February 1614. He was the son of a pastor who had embraced Protestantism. Jakob was taught at the Protestant school at Goldberg (Zlotoryja, Poland) before entering the University of Frankfurt-an-der-Oder in 1566. He also studied for a short time at Wittenberg, before becoming a teacher in various schools. He was appointed Professor of Hebrew at his old university of Frankfurt/Oder (1579), and he subsequently became Professor of Ethics (1593) and finally of Theology (1594).
