Isaiah the prophet has written of old. Joy F. Patterson* (1931- ). Written in 1981 in two stanzas, based on Isaiah 11: 6-9 (stanza 1) and Isaiah 55: 12-13 (stanza 2), this was one of the winning hymns in the Hymn Society of America (with the Choristers Guild*) search for new hymns for children in 1982. It was sung at the Hymn Society’s meeting in Atlanta in that year, and published in Hymns for the Children of God (HSA, 1982). It was written for the American folk-tune SAMANTHRA, and is a flowing paraphrase of the two passages.
