FRANZ, Ignaz. b. Protzan, Silesia, 12 Oct 1719; d. Breslau (Wroclaw, Poland), 19 Aug 1790. Franz studied at Glatz Gymnasium and then studied Philosophy and Theology at Breslau University. He was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest at Olmütz in 1742 and in the same year became chaplain at Grossglogau. In 1753, he became archpriest at Schlawa, then Leiter des Priesteralumnats (head of a seminary) in Breslau in 1766.
He edited hymnbooks, including Die christ-katholische Lehre in Liedern (1766), Lobgesänge zu den Tagzeiten von der Todesangst Christi am Ölberge (1770), and Choralbuch zum allgemeinen vollständigen catholischen Gesangbuche (1778).
