If through unruffled seas. Augustus Montague Toplady* (1740-1778).
This is a selection of four stanzas based on Toplady’s ‘Your harps, ye trembling saints’* (cf., ‘Blest is the man, O God’*). The source is sometimes given as ‘Noel’s Coll’ or ‘Pratt’s Coll’. ‘Noel’s Coll’ has not been identified, but ‘Pratt’s Coll’ refers to Josiah Pratt*’s Three Hundred and Fifty Portions of the Book of Psalms: selected from various versions, with a collection of six hundred hymns adapted for public worship (1829).
