I heard an old, old story. Eugene M. Bartlett* (1885-1941). Published in 1939, following a stroke that rendered Bartlett partially paralyzed and unable to perform or travel, this hymn, composed in a gospel-quartet style, was widely performed and recorded and became his best-known work. It is sometimes identified by its refrain as ‘O victory in Jesus’: O victory in Jesus My Savior forever He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him He plunged me to victory Beneath the cleansing flood.
