Hymns for Prayer and Praise
Hymns for Prayer and Praise (1996). Hymns for Prayer and Praise was published by the Canterbury Press for the Panel of Monastic Musicians in 1996. It was intended primarily for use in monastic and religious communities, but also in churches in which daily prayer is offered with music. It acknowledges a debt to the Liber Hymnarius of the monks of Solesmes (1983), but its texts are in English, with a small selection of Latin hymns at the end of the book (501-515). The first five hundred hymns therefore use chant music (helpfully set out, and in five-line staves) for English words, following the practice of the Convent of St Mary the Virgin, Wantage, and the Community of the Resurrection,...
