Hymns and Songs
Hymns and Songs (1969). Hymns and Songs (1969) was a British Methodist Supplement to MHB. It contained 99 hymns and songs, five canticles and psalms, and 26 ‘Supplementary Tunes’ to hymns in MHB. Some of the contents were traditional, because the opportunity was taken to include some omissions from MHB (such as James Montgomery*’s ‘Songs of praise the angels sang’*). Others were (in the words of the preface) ‘in an idiom and style which answer the demand for more contemporary expressions and themes’.
