Hymni Sacri et Novi
Hymni Sacri et Novi (1689). This is the title of a collection by Jean-Baptiste de Santeuil*, published in Paris and dedicated to Cardinal Bulloni, abbot-elect of Cluny. The author was ‘Santolio Victorino’ (de Santeuil’s religious name, Santolius Victorinus). It contained 53 hymns for saints’ days and the Great Festivals of the church’s year, and 12 for collective and general use for martyrs, doctors, evangelists, confessors, and others. There followed a prayer and three poems, succeeded by 12 chants with plainchant accompaniment.
