This is often known by its title as ‘Lift him up’. It is difficult to determine the exact date of the hymn’s composition: Hymnary.org indicates its initial publication in Golden Songs of Glory (Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, 1906), Shining Light (Atlanta, Georgia, 1906), The Star of Hope (Huntsville, Alabama, 1906)—all the same year and all in the southern United States.
