His name is wonderful
His name is wonderful. Audrey Mieir (1916-1996).
This hymn was written in 1955, when Christmas Day fell on a Sunday. Mieir has recounted that she was sitting in Bethel Union Church, Duarte, California, where her brother-in-law was the pastor, on Christmas morning. The church had been decorated with pine branches, and she ‘was almost overwhelmed by the fragrance, the sounds, and most of all, the gentle moving of the Spirit’. After the first hymn the pastor began the service with the words ‘His name shall be called Wonderful’, at which point Mieir wrote the words of the first stanza on the flyleaf of her Bible.
