Herr unser Gott, lass nicht zuschanden werden. Johann Heermann* (1585-1647).
First published in Heermann’s Devoti Musica Cordis (Breslau and Leipzig, 1630). It is found in a section headed ‘Zur Zeit der Verfolgung und Drangseligkeit frommer Christen’ (‘in the time of persecution and distress of pious Christians’) as the first of four hymns under the title ‘Thränen-Lieder’ (‘songs of tears’) (the second is ‘Treuer Wächter Israel’*; cf. also ‘O Jesu Christe, wahres Licht’*).
In EG (247) it has four 4-line stanzas, with the last line of each stanza repeated. It occurs in the ‘Sammlung und Sendung’ (Assembling and Mission) section of the ‘Gottesdienst’ (worship) section. The final stanza is...
