Henry John Pye
PYE, Henry John. b. 31 January 1827; d. 3 January 1903. His father lived at Clifton Hall, Staffordshire, and was the patron of the local living. Henry John was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge (BA 1848, MA 1852). He took Holy Orders (deacon 1850, priest 1851). He served a curacy at Cuddesdon (1850-51). In 1851 he was presented by his father to the rectory of Clifton-Campville with Chilcote, Staffordshire. He was rector there from 1851 to 1868. He was evidently a rising star in the Anglican firmament, of good family, married to a Bishop’s daughter (Emily Charlotte, the daughter of Samuel Wilberforce, Bishop of Oxford), and a Prebendary of Lichfield Cathedral.
