Henry Harbaugh
HARBAUGH, Henry. b. Midvale, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, 28 October 1817; d. Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, 28 December 1867. The son of a farmer, and the tenth of twelve children, he worked on his father’s farm, attended a school in winter, and read an English grammar while ploughing. In search of a further education he moved to Carroll County, Ohio, where he attended New Hagerston Academy while also working as a carpenter. He returned to Pennsylvania in 1840, studying at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster (1840-43), before being ordained in the German Reformed Church in 1843.
