Heavenly Father, Thou hast brought us
Heavenly Father, Thou hast brought us. Hester Periam Hawkins* (1846-1928).
Written in 1885 for the golden wedding of Mrs Hawkins's parents, this was published in The Home Hymn Book, A Manual of Sacred Song for the Family Circle (1885), of which HPH was co-editor. It had the title ‘Golden Wedding’. It had one stanza which referred to the specific occasion:
Father, all Thy gifts are precious,
But we thank Thee most for this,
That so many years of toiling
Have been soothed by wedded bliss;
Since our hearts were first united
Life has not been free from care,
But our burdens were the lighter
When each bore an equal share.
