Harold Riley
RILEY, Harold. b. 1903; d. Hammersmith, London, 7 March 2003. Riley was educated at the University of Birmingham (BA 1924). In 1925 he became a lay member of the Community of the Resurrection, Mirfield, before taking Holy Orders (deacon 1927, priest 1928). He was curate of St Mark’s, Washwood Heath, Birmingham (1927-31) and of St Margaret, Roath, Cardiff (1931-37); rector of Our Lady of Mercy and St Thomas of Canterbury, Gorton, Manchester (1937-44), General Secretary of the Church Union (‘seeking to promote and renew Catholic Faith and Life within the Church of England’) (1944-55), and vicar of St Augustine with St John, Kilburn (1955-75).
