Great is thy faithfulness
Great is thy faithfulness. Thomas O. Chisholm* (1866-1960). Written in 1923, this text was sent by the author to his friend, the evangelist, editor and composer William M. Runyan* who set the hymn and published it in his Songs of Salvation and Service: for the promotion of evangelism and Christian zeal in all departments of the church (Chicago, 1923). It rapidly became popular, and became the ‘Institute Hymn’ of the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, where Runyan was a member of staff from 1931 to 1944. It is based on Lamentations 3: 22-3:
