The Great Awakenings is the name given to periods of religious revival that occurred in colonial British North America and The United States in the early to mid-18th century, in the early national period to the middle of the 19th century, and in the Reconstruction era to about 1910. These awakenings profoundly changed the course of American religious history, and to a lesser degree that of other countries.
