Gott, heiliger Schöpfer aller Stern

Gott, heiliger Schöpfer aller Stern. Thomas Müntzer* (ca. 1490-1525). This hymn (‘God, blessed creator of all stars’) was included in Müntzer’s Deutzsch kirken ampt (Allstedt, 1524), in seven 4-line stanzas. It is his version of ‘Conditor alme siderum’*. It is found in EG and in Gotteslob. Both omit the original stanza 5: Alles, was durch yhn geschaffen ist, dem gibt er krafft, wesen und frist nach seines willens ordnung zwar, yhn zu erkennen offenbar. This is one of two Advent hymns by Müntzer (Wackernagel, Das Deutsche Kirchenlied, III. 440-1; the other is ‘O Herr, erlöser alles volcks’).
