God we praise you! God we bless you
God we praise you! God we bless you. Christopher Martin Idle* (1938- ). Written in 1978 and first published in HfTC (1982), this is one of many versifications of the ‘Te Deum’*. It was written while the author was recuperating after an eye operation, with the tune LUX EOI in mind. He writes: ‘I had for some time wanted to try for a version which was contemporary, which addressed the Godhead directly, and which embodied the essentials of this ancient hymn’. It has appeared in many British books, including BPW, Sing Glory, A&MCP and Praise! (2000).
