God, whose giving knows no ending
God, whose giving knows no ending. Robert L. Edwards* (1915- 2006).
The Hymnal Companion to the Lutheran Book of Worship (1981) quotes Edwards as saying that this hymn was written at his family’s summer cottage at Randolph, New Hampshire, in August 1961. It was submitted to a Hymn Society commission for new hymns on the theme of stewardship, and was one of those chosen to be published by the society in Ten New Stewardship Hymns (Springfield, Ohio, 1961). Edwards said that he had been listening to the tune HYFRYDOL by R.H. Prichard*, and wrote the words to that tune. In ELW it is set to RUSTINGTON by C. H. H. Parry*.
