Go in grace and make disciples. Mary Louise Bringle* (1953– ).
In writing this hymn on the Great Commission in 2000, the author ‘wanted to emphasize that mission in the model of Christ has more to do with service than conquest’ (Bringle, 2002, p. 44). In keeping with Matthew 28:19–20, the incipit of the hymn’s three stanzas reflects a person of the Trinity:
Stanza 1: ‘Go in grace and make disciples. / Baptize in God’s holy name’. Stanza 2: 'Go and follow Christ's example, / not to vanquish, but to heal'. Stanza 3: 'Go in Pentecostal spirit, / many tongues and many gifts'.
