Go, make of all disciples
Go, make of all disciples. Leon McKinley Adkins*, Sr. (1896-1986).
First sung at University Methodist Church, Syracuse, New York in 1955, where the author was the minister, for the commissioning of teachers and church school officials during Christian Education Week (Young, 1993, p. 358). It was printed in the magazine Church School (Nashville, February 1956), and, with some changes, in MH66, and UMH. It is found in the Roman Catholic Worship II and III (1975, 1994).
It is based on Matthew 28: 19 (NIV): ‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…’. Young (1993) prints Adkins’ own rather predictable commentary on his own hymn (pp. 358-9). It is normally sung to LANCASHIRE, by Henry...
