Give to me, Lord, a thankful heart. (Thomas) Caryl Micklem* (1925-2003). The words of this hymn were written to fit a tune by Micklem entitled GATESCARTH. The tune was composed for a hymn by Fred Pratt Green*, ‘O God of all, our Servant God’, published in Pratt Green’s 26 Hymns (1971). Micklem wrote his own words for his tune in 1973, and text and tune appeared together in New Church Praise (NCP) (1975), the first hymn publication of the newly formed United Reformed Church (for Micklem’s part in this book see ‘United Reformed Church hymnody’*).
