GIA Publications Inc. The Gregorian Institute of America, later renamed GIA Publications, Inc., was founded on December 8, 1941 by Clifford A. Bennett (1904-1987) at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Shortly after establishing the company, Bennett moved the firm to Toledo, Ohio. The Gregorian Institute of America became known for its Catholic Choirmasters’ Correspondence Course; by 1950, nearly 1000 musicians had completed the coursework through home study and national gatherings.
