Gerard Thomas Noel
NOEL, The Hon. Gerard Thomas. b. Ketton, Rutland, 2 December 1782; d. Romsey, Hampshire, 24 February 1851. Born into a noble family (his father was Sir Gerard Noel Edwardes, who took the name of Noel in 1798, and became a Baronet in 1813). He was educated in Kent, and Trinity College, Cambridge (BA 1805, MA 1808). He entered Lincoln’s Inn in 1798, presumably intending to become a lawyer, but decided to take Holy Orders (deacon 1806, priest 1807). He was curate of Radwell, Hertfordshire (1806-07), vicar of Rainham, Kent (1807-26), and curate of Richmond, Surrey (1826-34). He was appointed a prebendary of Winchester in 1834, and held the living at Romsey from 1840 until his death.
