George Frederick Vincent
VINCENT, George Frederick. b.Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham, 27 March 1855; d. Brentwood, Essex, 30 November 1928. He was the younger brother of Charles John Vincent*, and had a similar career in his youth, becoming organist of Sunderland Parish Church at the age of sixteen or seventeen in 1872, and studying in Leipzig. He was organist of Whitburn Parish Church, Co. Durham (1878-82), and of St Thomas’s, Sunderland (1882-1900), before moving to London, where he taught at Trinity College of Music and was organist of St Michael’s, Cornhill (1900-16).
