Geoffrey Shaw
SHAW, Geoffrey Turton. b. 14 November 1879; d. 14 April 1943. The younger brother of Martin Shaw*, he was a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, London. He was then educated at Derby School and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he was organ scholar. At Cambridge he studied with Charles Villiers Stanford* and Charles Wood*. He taught at Gresham’s School, Holt, Norfolk (1902-10), where he was Director of Music, leaving to become an inspector of music in London schools (1911-40).
