Frederick John Gillman
GILLMAN, Frederick John. b. Devizes, Somerset, 25 February 1866; d. Jordans, Buckinghamshire, 19 February 1949. He was a member of the Society of Friends, and an active member of the National Adult School Union for many years. He lived for some time in York, and ca. 1905 he was private secretary to Arnold S. Rowntree, one of the MPs for the City of York. He was also active in the foundation of Adult Schools in Leeds and York. His work for the Adult School movement resulted in The Story of the York Adult Schools, from the Commencement to the Year 1907 (1907) and The Workers and Education: a Record of some Present-Day Experiments (1916).
