Frank M. Davis
DAVIS, Frank M. b. Onondonga County, New York State, 23 January 1839; d. Chesterfield, Indiana, 1 August 1896. Davis was a musician and teacher of music, who lived at various times at Baltimore, Maryland; Cincinnati, Ohio; Burr Oak and Findley, Michigan. His middle name is unknown. He published his own compositions, including a song and chorus, Bear it gently to my mother (Toledo, Ohio, 1864), New Pearls of Song (Rochester, 1877), and Songs for Class and School (Battle Creek, Michigan, 1881). He wrote hymns for Sunday schools and for the temperance movement, published in Notes of Praise and Brightest Glory. He is remembered for one hymn, ‘Saviour, lead me, lest I stray’*.
