Francis H. Murray
MURRAY, Francis Henry. b. Bishop’s Court, Kirk Michael, Isle of Man, 7 June 1820; d. Chislehurst, Kent, 11 October 1902. Murray came from an aristocratic family: his great-grandfather was the Duke of Atholl. At the time of his birth his father, George Murray, was Bishop of Sodor and Man. Educated at Christ Church, Oxford (BA 1841, MA 1845), Francis Murray took Holy Orders (deacon 1843, priest 1845), and served a curacy at Northfield, Birmingham (1843-45). He became rector of Chislehurst, Kent, in 1846 (his father had by then become Bishop of Rochester). He remained there until his death over fifty years later.
