For all thy saints, O Lord
For all thy saints, O Lord. Richard Mant* (1776-1848).
First published in Mant’s Ancient Hymns from the Roman Breviary, for Domestick Use…. To which are added Original Hymns (1837). This was one of the original hymns, entitled ‘Hymn on All Saints’. It had six stanzas. The First Edition of A&M printed five stanzas with alterations, as the last hymn in the book. The most radical alteration was to the first line, which read ‘For Thy dear saint, O Lord’, but there were many others, for example the order of lines in stanza 2:
