Father, hear Thy children’s call

Father, hear Thy children’s call. Thomas Benson Pollock* (1836-1896).  This Litany for Children is taken from a text in Pollock’s Metrical Litanies for Special Services and General Use (1870). It was in three parts: Part 1 of nine stanzas, Part 2 of six stanzas, and Part 3 of nine stanzas. It was printed in the Second Edition of A&M (1875) under the title of ‘Litanies of Penitence’, where it began with the usual stanza for liturgies, ‘God the Father, God the Son’. It was not in A&M (1904), remaining only in A&MS (1922). In EH (1906) the text was printed as a single hymn of 24 stanzas.  In Britain this Litany does not seem to be widely known outside the Anglican tradition,...
