Erasmus Alber
ALBER (or ALBERUS), Erasmus. b. Wetterau (?), ca. 1500; d. Neubrandenburg, Mecklenburg, 5 May 1553. Little is known for certain about Alber’s early years, although he is thought to have been born in the Wetterau (the area of the river Wetter, north of Frankfurt-am-Main). He matriculated as a student at Wittenberg in 1520, which places his birth date as ca. 1500. After a period as a schoolmaster, he became pastor at Sprendlingen and Götzingen, south of Frankfurt (1528-39), superintendent at Neustad-Dosse, Brandenburg (1541), and priest at Staden (1543).
