Elizabeth Sibbald Alderson
ALDERSON, Elizabeth Sibbald (née Dykes). b. Hull, 16 August 1818; d. 18 March 1889. She was the daughter of Elizabeth (née Huntington) and William Hey Dykes, a ship-builder, who later became the manager of a branch of the Yorkshire District Bank; one of her brothers was John Bacchus Dykes*. She married the Revd W.T. Alderson, a prison chaplain. She published Twelve Hymns (n.d., but before 1875) from which are taken the two hymns by which she is known, ‘And now, belovèd Lord, thy soul resigning’* and ‘Lord of glory, Who hast bought...
