Edward Cooper
COOPER, Edward. b. 1770; d. 26 February 1833. He was educated at Queen’s College, Oxford (BA 1792), later becoming a Fellow of All Souls’ College. He took Holy Orders (1793), and was rector of Hamstall-Ridware, Staffordshire (1799) and of Yoxall, Staffordshire (1809), the two livings held in plurality until his death. He published Practical and Familiar Sermons (very many editions, from 1808 onwards, some adding to the title ‘designed for parochial and domestic instruction’).
He appears in JJ under ‘Staffordshire Hymnbooks’ (pp. 1084-5), because he was associated with others (Thomas Cotterill*, John Stubbs) in the compiling of A Selection of Psalms and Hymns for Public and Private Use...
