Come, labour on
Come, labour on. Jane Laurie Borthwick* (1813-1897).
This is one of the hymns by Jane Borthwick that are not translations from the German. It was published in her Thoughts for Thoughtful Hours (1859), and altered and revised for Thoughtful Hours (1863). It had seven verses. Five were printed in the Church Hymnary (1898) and six in A&M (1904). The missing verse from the A&M text was verse 3:
Come, labour on!
The labourers are few, the field is wide,
New stations must be filled and blanks supplied;
From voices distant far, or near at home,
The call is, ‘Come.’
Books which print various selections of verses from this text are A&MR, BBCHB, BHB, and The Moravian Hymn...
