Clement Cotterill Scholefield
SCHOLEFIELD, Clement Cotterill. b. Edgbaston, Birmingham, 22 June 1839; d. Godalming, Surrey, 10 September 1904. He was educated at Pocklington School, Yorkshire, and St John’s College, Cambridge (BA 1864, MA 1867). After beginning a career as a lawyer, he took Holy Orders (deacon 1867, priest 1869) serving curacies at Hove Parish Church, Sussex (1867-70), St Peter’s, Cranley Gardens, South Kensington (1870-79) where Sullivan* was organist, and St Luke’s, Chelsea (1879-80). He was chaplain at Eton College (1880-90) and later vicar of Holy Trinity, Knightsbridge (1890-95). A keen musician, he produced 41 hymn tunes in total.
