Church of God, elect and glorious
Church of God, elect and glorious. James Edward Seddon* (1915-1983).
This was written at Peldon, Essex, ca.1980, when Seddon was rector of the parish. This was the final appointment of a notable missionary career, and the hymn proved to be one of the last he wrote. He was then the senior member of the Jubilate Group* working on the words of HFTC, and with minor changes the hymn was readily welcomed for the new book, in the section ‘God’s Church: Mission and Ministry’. See also Exploring Praise vol. 1 (Christopher Idle, 2006, p.388). The hymn is based on 1 Peter 2:9-10.
