Christopher Porteous
PORTEOUS, Christopher. b. Dulwich, London, 8 November 1935. He was educated at Dulwich College, south London. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1960, and worked for London County Council (1960-62) and Scotland Yard (1962-86). He was Solicitor for the Commissioner of Police (1987-95) and is the author of articles on law. He was appointed CBE in 1993. He has been a Church of England Lay Reader since 1958, a member of Rochester Diocesan Pastoral Committee (1984-88) and of the Home Affairs Committee of the Church of England Board for Social Responsibility (1995-2002). He began writing hymns in the 1970s and has published 15 texts, of which ‘He gave his life in selfless love’ is the best known...
