Christian Psalmody (1833 and after). This collection, edited by Edward Bickersteth*, was published in 1833. It became one of the most influential hymnbooks in the Church of England before A&M, and marked a significant increase in the resources available to those who wished to encourage hymn singing. Its title page gives an accurate description of its contents and scope:
