Christ, when for us you were baptized. F. Bland Tucker* (1895-1984).
Written in 1973 at the request of an Australian theology student at Trinity College, Melbourne, Dirk van Dissel. It is interesting to note that at the same time van Dissel was writing to Fred Pratt Green*, the British Methodist hymn writer, with a similar request. He was asking these two great hymn writers for a hymn on the Baptism of Christ for the forthcoming Australian Hymn Book (WOV, 1977). However, neither hymn was used in that book.
Bland Tucker's hymn deals principally with the narrative of the Baptism of Christ, only transferring to ‘Baptise us with your Spirit, Lord’ in verse 4: it is a hymn of dedication rather...
