Charles Sylvester Horne
HORNE, Charles Sylvester. b. Cuckfield, Sussex, 15 April 1865; d. near Toronto, Canada, 2 May 1914. He was educated at the Grammar School at Newport, Shropshire and the University of Glasgow (MA, 1886). He trained for the Congregational ministry at Mansfield College, Oxford (1886-89), where he was one of the first intake of students. He became minister of Allen Street Congregational Chapel, Kensington, London, and in 1903 moved to Whitefield's Tabernacle, Tottenham Court Road, where he attracted large numbers by the eloquence and force of his preaching.
