Calvin Hampton
HAMPTON, George Calvin. b. Kittanning, Pennsylvania, 31 December 1938; d. Port Charlotte, Florida, 5 August 1984. Hampton lived in Ravenna, Ohio during his formative years. His high school music teachers encouraged him to enter the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Oberlin, Ohio, (BM 1960), where he studied organ with Fenner Douglass (1921-2008) and composition with Joseph Wood (1915-2000). Following graduation he taught at Salem College, North Carolina, whilst studying organ with Arthur Poister (1898-1980) and composition with Earl George (1924-80) at Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York (MM 1962).
